Carrot Cake with Brown Butter Frosting

A Family Classic + A Twist

When I got married, my husband’s sweet great aunt gave me her beloved carrot cake recipe. I made this recipe to honor the traditional family recipe I was gifted while giving it my own creative spin.

Carrot Cake

  • ¾ cup white sugar

  • ¾ cup brown sugar

  • 1 ½ cup oil

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ½ tsp all spice

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp nutmeg

  • Mix sugars, eggs, and oil. Sift dry ingredients together and add to sugar mixture.

  • Then add 3 cups grated carrots

  • Bake for 60 minutes at 325 degrees

Brown Butter Frosting

  • ½ cup butter (browned)

  • 8 oz cream cheese

  • 3 cups powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • splash of milk

This recipe makes a traditional cake. For a loaf cake (as pictured) half the recipe and bake at 350 for 50 minutes
