SUMA at the Paiute PowWow

At the annual powwow hosted by the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, I led a hands-on ceramics booth developed in collaboration with tribal partners. This program connected directly to a gallery exhibition featuring the work of Paiute artist Kelvin Yazzie, creating a meaningful extension of the museum experience into a community setting.

I coordinated all aspects of the booth—from sourcing and transporting materials to setting up the space and guiding participants through the process of creating pinch pot ceramics. Throughout the event, I worked closely with community members of all ages, helping them engage with clay in a way that felt accessible, creative, and grounded in cultural context.

This experience required both logistical problem-solving and thoughtful facilitation, ensuring the activity remained respectful, engaging, and well-supported in a busy outdoor environment.

This project reflects my ability to support community-centered programming through thoughtful coordination, cultural awareness, and hands-on creative engagement.
